I have been hiding from my computer for the last few days and hanging with my friends and family. And I must say, it has been a beautiful thing.
Sigh.
I should have been working, blogging and all the stuff that comes with it, but I played hooky instead.
First off, I went to see Transformers and Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs and they both rocked!
Even with being a girl, I loved Transformers. Lots of action, the music was cool and the twins in the movie made me laugh so hard. THAT is one movie I cannot wait for in DVD! The fun part about the Transformers movies is that we saw it at the Drive-In. My family loves, loves, loves the Drive-In. We usually buy tons of candy, pop a great big bowl of popcorn and hang in our pajamas when we go. It is so fun! The kids have a blast and either Mini Me, me or both of us fall asleep. This however is not the rule, just the norm, however, my eyes were wide open during Transformers. Mini Me fell asleep, but I just told him he would be all surprised when we watched it on DVD.
Fourth of July, Mike had to work a double shift, so it was just me and the kids. In the morning, while everyone slept, Photochick and I did the yard sale circuit. We found some really good buys and a really cool collectibles place where I found a replica of a Jackson 5 poster. Photochick found a Rolling Stone magazine from 1992 with MJ in it as well.
In the afternoon, the kids and I went with some friends to see Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs and it was pretty funny. Not as riveting as Transformers, but funny and entertaining in a kid-movie sort of way. One thing that I must say was a smart move on my part, was the purchase of a ginormous popcorn that was refillable. Panda toppled about three quarters of the bucket on the theater floor and I was never so glad to have bought the BIG bucket! Free refills for everyone! Hmmm...really good thing I listened to that little voice or else that $8 popcorn bucket greasing up the floor would have made me a wee bit pissy. After the movie, I took the kids shopping, we ate some pizza and then watched some fireworks in our neighborhood. It was quiet, but good.
Sunday, Photochick and I went back yard sale hunting, but we didn't find anything worthy of plunking down our cash for. The absolute best part of the weekend was Friday night and Sunday afternoon/evening. I was kid-free and husband-free! Can I just tell you how sweet it was?
I DID NOTHING!
Well, I read a couple of books, went shopping, bought myself that ginormous cupcake mold that Panda has been eyeing on those infomercials and a really cool 500 piece dragon puzzle for the kids and I to do. I even got to go to the scrapbook store and signed up to make this really cute gotta-have-need-to-have flip flop/beach scrapbook.
Sigh.
IT is beautiful and I cannot wait until the 14th and get to take that class. Love it!!
Oh, and while shopping I discovered my new favorite kitchen store-Sur La Table. I had never heard of it before and to be honest, any store where there are things to cook with, I steer clear of. Anything with the words kitchen, pots, pans, dishes and meals makes me shudder. And I avoid stores with those objects like the plague.
In this case, they had my ginormous cupcake pan for $14.99 cheaper than Michaels and I was so psyched! I must say, except for the pots and pans part of the store, they had the coolest stuff in there. I guess it was more the colors that attracted me than the cooking stuff. Now the bakeware, that is my home-away-from-home!
Did I mention I make a kick ass Chocolate Chip Banana Bread?
I love to bake and make treats for the holidays and that store really sparked that little creative flame that has been in hibernation for awhile. Yeppers, the little hamsters were really flying! I know this sounds silly, but I was so inspired by all the colors and cool ideas for the holidays that when I got home, I wrote them all down so I wouldn't forget.
Sigh.
Old age does that to you, ya know.
But anyway.
I think this week I am going to start planning my projects for the holidays and go back to the Sur La Table and check out what exactly I'll need and see what their sales are like. And Michaels, well, they better bring on some more 50% coupons because I've got lots of shopping to do.
Soooo, I guess I did do something during my kid-free/husband-free break, just not what I was supposed to be doing.
Oh well, another day, another load of laundry piles up. Whatever. Monday will be here soon enough, eh?
Yep.
And on that note, I am going to eat my just delivered Chinese food, in peace, before my children arrive home to "torment" me with their hugs and kisses.
Yeah.
Drop me a line and let me know how your Fourth of July weekend was. Hope you all had a terrific time with the people you love best! :)
